Rachel Keller is a fictional character from The Ring film series. The character was invented by writer-producer Ehren Kruger and voiced by Naomi Watts, serves as the protagonist of The Ring and The Ring Two that share similarities to Reiko Asakawa from the earlier Japanese films.Introduced in the 2002 film, Rachel is an investigative journalist trying to figure out how to avoid the death penalty after viewing a video that was cursed that she discovered while investigating the murder of her niece. Rachel has to look into the past of Samara Morgan her son in The Ring Two. Ruth, Rachel's sister, asks Rachel to inquire into the mysterious circumstances surrounding Katie's sudden passing. Rachel finds out from her that Katie was healthy and she found Katie's disfigured body inside the closet. Katie's close friends inform Rachel about the myth behind the cursed tape and how Becca, Katie's friend, was institutionalized after witnessing Katie's death. Katie's boyfriend and two of her best friendsall perished in bizarre accidents that took place on the same night at 10:30 pm. Rachel is able to travel to Shelter Mountain Inn and stays in Cabin 12, the exact cabin in which Katie and her companions saw the videotape they believed was cursed. Rachel finds out later that Aidan Noah's son saw the tape as Noah was calling her. He tells Rachel that the tape is believed by Rachel. Rachel searches the tape for the lighthouse and finds it's located on Moesko Island. This was the home of Anna Morgan, an evil horse breeder cursed to appear on the cursed tape. Rachel discovers that Anna had an adoptive daughter named Samara. Samara was capable of creating terrifying images within the minds of humans, animals, and objects. Rachel is forced to leave Anna's widower Richard when she begins to ask questions about Samara.
